On Alcatraz, a
defiant memory of a bloody thanksgiving;
In Seattle, a defiant
march against a new invasion

Young Indians dance in the
dawn fog at an unthanksgiving Alcatraz ceremony. A mournful, defiant
remembrance of the first thanksgiving which was the celebration
of a puritan massacre of Indians...

... A few days later, Seattle
streets are filled with a similar defiance, some joyful like the
Anti-Fascist Marching Band. Some mournful like the Greed Kills
sign...

Most important sign in Seattle recognizes
that as long as one of us is exploited all of us are threatened.
An injury to one is an injury to all. The sign is carried by Fred
Hirsch. In the foreground Mark Glass, both from San Jose Plumbers
Local 363. Elfie was videoing for the local the involvement of
5 of their members in the protests.
Seattle was a massive confirmation
that we all need each other. Unions cannot prevail without religious
folks or environmentalists and visa versa all around... At issue
now is: how do we grow and spread and sustain the Seattle unity¿¿¿???
Buy A Bale A Month Club
As reported in our e-mail message of October 12, member Vic
Bedoian has organized a Buy A Bale A Month Club. Each club member
pledges to donate to SunMt $5 a month to buy, truck and store
a bale of straw for Baby SunHouse, SunMt's demonstration passive
solar straw bale-adobe dwelling. Purpose to develop engineering
data so that straw bale construction can become a part of the
regular building. The club will live until the project is fully
financed. You can join by sending in your first $5.
This chronicle is transformed most every Monday.
