| Fresno GOP right wing crosshairs liberal city human relations commission. First casualty is Su Kapoor, long time commission member and gentle outspoken advocate for nonviolence and and peace. He was booted from the commission by councilman Jerry Duncan after the commission unanimously urged the city council to oppose the Iraqi slaughter. Over 150 of us gathered at Fresno city hall to support Kapoor and the integrity of the commission. Hear Kapoor speak to us by clicking here. Hear Les Kimber, who was on the city council when the commission was formed in 1986, speak by clicking here. These clips are longer than the usual SunMt Chronicles. Please be patient. These men are speaking to the elemental issues of our time. The full intention of the Duncan ouster of Kapoor came later. Duncan said he would reappoint Kapoor if the commmsion would stick to local issues. Fresno GOP mayor Alan Autry echoed Duncan while city councilman Brad Castillo who said he would appoint Kapoor snipped at the commissions leaders Gail Gaston and Debbie Reyes. |
