Seal in mid-Pacific Ocean. East of Midway and the Hawaiian
Islands is what is perhaps the world’s largest garbage dump:
a floating, rotating “island” of trash-ladened water about
twice the size of Texas.
LA River at the sea. The Los Angeles River carries enough
trash each year to fill the Rose Bowl two stories high, and
despite efforts to corral some of it near the river mouth,
most slips through to the ocean.
